Principal Update
Hello Conway Families,
As we continue our focus on attendance for Attendance Awareness Month, I wanted to share our year long school-wide goals. Our goal this year is to reach a 95% Average Daily Attendance (ADA) rate and reduce Chronic Absenteeism to 16%. Last year, we made progress on our Attendance goals and achieved a 93.54% ADA and an 18.87% Chronic Absenteeism rate. A student is considered chronically absent after missing 10 or more school days in a year, so our primary focus is helping families remove any barriers to getting students to school on time every day. Our dedicated SEAT team is here specifically to support you and your family with attendance—if they reach out, know that we are here to help!
At Conway Academy, we take pride in doing things differently as an Expeditionary Learning (EL) Specialty School in the Escondido Union School District. Since adopting the EL Education model over a decade ago, our school's transformation and progress have been remarkable. Strong family and community involvement are essential to this model. We rely on parents and caregivers to monitor student progress, attend school events, and chaperone fieldwork.
To support these goals, we are looking for fieldwork and school volunteers. Please note that our volunteer guidelines have changed, so we are hosting a Volunteer Workshop and Fieldwork Training on September 11 and September 25. During these sessions Xochitl Maldonado, our Family Liaison will review the new guidelines and assist with volunteer registration and Lana Brady, our Instructional Coach will share fieldwork best practices for chaperones.
We ask that all fieldwork volunteers attend at least one training session before chaperoning. I hope to see many of you there!
Finally, please help us be good neighbors during drop-off and dismissal. Kindly avoid parking in or blocking private driveways, keep a close eye out for pedestrians, and refrain from walking across neighboring private property.

EXPLORE After School Enrichment Update
Thank you families for signing up for our after school EXPLORE classes! The form is now closed and we will send out permission slips next week. Students need a signed permission slip in order to attend our EXPLORE classes. Students can return their permission slips to their teacher.
Some of our classes still have openings and Mrs. Banks, our EXPLORE coordinator, will be out after school promoting these open classes. Anyone interested in these classes can pick up a permission slip there. We have a limited number of openings in: Allegro Strings, Dance, Theatre, STEM, Skateboarding, Rugby, Favel Tradicion, iCook, and Ceramics. If you missed filling out the interest form, now is your chance to still join a class!
PTA
When parents join the PTA, amazing things happen for our school! Your membership isn't just a sign-up—it’s a direct investment in our students' everyday experience.
September is PTA Membership Month. You might ask yourself, "Why Join the PTA?". Memberships help fund and support advocacy for public education funding and policies at local, state, and national levels. Membership dues directly back student programs, classroom events, and specifically at Conway it primarily goes towards the funding of Fieldwork. Joining builds a stronger, more inclusive network for children and families.
Our membership goal for this school year is to have a total of 200 members pay their dues.
We are counting on the support from school staff, Conway families and community members to meet our goal.

Chuck E Cheese FUNdraiser
Join us to celebrate the new school year at our first Restaurant Night of the school year at Chuck E Cheese's!
This is one of our most popular fundraisers and you won't want to miss it. The best part is that Chuck E Cheese's will donate up to 20% of sales to our school.

Dental Care at Conway
Children need regular dental care (2-4 times per year) to have and maintain a healthy mouth and teeth.
EUSD has partnered with Neighborhood Healthcare to make dental care accessible to ALL students. Yes, students with medical, private or no insurance are eligible to receive services onsite at Conway during school hours.
Students who submit a waiver will be seen by a Dentist or a Registered Dental Hygienist on-site at your child’s school.
Services that the Mobil Dental Bus offers include:
- Complete Dental Exam
- Fluoride Treatment
- X-rays
- Teeth Cleaning
- Pictures of his/her teeth
- Sealants
What does this mean for families and students?
Less absences for students. Healthier students. Families don't have to worry about asking time off work or worry about transportation to and from appointments. The list goes on and on.
