If you are interested in applying for an added authorization, please request a transcript review to see whether you already have qualifying coursework or an applicable degree major. You may qualify for an added authorization based on:

• Degree Major (Link Below)
• Coursework, or
• Passing the CSET Exams for a specific subject area. (Link Below)

Some options include: Art, English, Math, Physical Education, Theater, Science, Spanish, Home Economics, etc.

California has fully implemented Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK), opening TK eligibility to all four-year-old children statewide.

To Teach TK, educators must hold a PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential or a Multiple Subject Credential and one of the following requirements:

• Child Development Permit
• 24 units in Child Development

If you already hold a Multiple Subject Credential and have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in any of the following fields, you qualify for the PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Credential:

• Child Development
• Child and Adolescent Development
• Human Development
• Early Childhood Education
• Child and Family Studies, Early Childhood Studies
• Human Development and Family Science
• Family Science
• Child, Adolescent and Family Studies

Another option to become TK-eligible is to obtain a Child Development Permit. Holders of Multiple Subject Credentials can qualify for a Child Development Site Supervisor Permit with as little as six semester units in Child Development/ Early Childhood Education.

Salary placement for teachers is based on the total number of units completed beyond your Bachelor’s Degree. If you are unsure of your current unit count or eligibility for a column change, please contact Diana Prado in HR.

Step 1: Get Pre-Approval
Before enrolling in a class, submit a pre-approval request online:

• Log in to Frevvo (link below)
• Go to the Human Resources Tab and select Prior Approval Application for Coursework.
• Fill out the required fields (course title, unit type, number of units, start date, institution, and reason for taking the course)
• Sign and submit

Note: Courses must be completed at an accredited institution and cannot duplicate previously taken coursework. You will receive an emailed copy of the form once HR reviews your request.

Step 2: Submit Official Transcripts
Once you complete your approved course, submit your official transcripts directly to HR:

• Electronic: Have the university or vendor (e.g., Parchment) send them directly to Diana Prado at [email protected] (opens in a new tab).
• Physical: Mail sealed transcripts to: Escondido Union School District

Step 3: Submit Change in Salary Status
After HR receives your transcripts, complete the final online application:

• Log in to Frevvo (link below)
• Go to the Human Resources Tab and select Application for Change in Salary Status.
• Complete the required fields, sign, and submit.

Deadlines & Effective Dates
Column changes and stipends are processed monthly, giving you the flexibility to complete courses year-round. Once you qualify for salary advancement, your pay adjustment will take effect on the 1st of the month following HR's receipt of both your official transcripts and completed application.

Your flexibility and dedication keep our classrooms running smoothly every single day, ensuring our students experience continuous, high-quality learning even when their regular teachers are away. You are a vital part of the EUSD family, and we truly could not do this work without you!

Substitute Teachers who have been successful and subbed consistently in our district are encouraged to consider applying for an Emergency Career Substitute Teaching Permit (opens in a new tab).

The Benefit: Allows you to serve in a single general education classroom for up to 60 days (compared to 30 days on a standard permit).

Eligibility: Requires 3+ consecutive years of substitute teaching (90+ days per school year)

CTC Fee: $100 to be paid online via debit or credit card once application is submitted. Payment is your responsibility.

Restrictions: The Career Sub Permit is district-specific and valid exclusively at EUSD

If you meet the requirements and would like to be considered, please contact Human Resources.

If you want to transition into a Special Education classroom but do not yet hold a full Education Specialist Credential, you may be eligible to teach under an Emergency Short-Term Staff Permit (STSP). The STSP allows qualified candidates to serve as the teacher of record while gaining classroom experience and working toward a credential.

Short-Term Staff Permit (STSP) Requirements:To qualify for an Emergency STSP in Special Education, candidates must meet the following California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) standards:

1. Degree: Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.

2. Basic Skills & Subject Area Requirements: Fulfill at least one of the following options:

a. Complete 9+ semester units of coursework in Special Education (or a combination of Special and Regular Education).
b. Have 3+ years of successful classroom experience working directly with special education students (experience as a substitute teacher, instructional assistant, or paraprofessional qualifies!).
c. Hold a degree major in Liberal Studies or have completed 40+ semester units across core general education subject areas

3. Complete CPR Certification: Adult and Pediatric (Child and Baby) Frist Aid/CPR/AED. Please note, there are options that are fully online and can be completed within just a few hours.
