Dear Reidy Creek Families,

We had a fantastic first week here at Reidy Creek! I loved having all of our students back on campus. The energy and excitement they have towards school is truly magical. Every year, our first week of school, also called the Week of Welcome, is dedicated to building strong relationships between students and staff, getting to know the routines and structures of a new classroom, learning about important staff members around campus, and reviewing school-wide expectations and procedures. We ended the week with our first Friday assembly, where we gathered as a school community for the first time, celebrated summer birthdays, and reviewed our school-wide expectations.

Grade Level Behavior Assemblies
All K-5th grade students attended behavior assemblies with me to review our four school-wide expectations: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be a Leader. We discussed how each of these expectations should be carried out in the classroom, around campus, and before and after school. Lastly, we discussed rules for recess, lunch, and dismissal, including a few new ones being implemented this year. We also discussed strategies for handling conflicts, such as using our Wheel of Choice or our four problem-solving steps. Students have done an excellent job this week applying all that they've learned!

Principal Read Alouds
One of my favorite activities at the beginning of the year is visiting each classroom for a special read-aloud. This gives me an opportunity to learn about all of our new students and share an important lesson as students start a new school year. These read-alouds will continue next week, but I encourage you to ask your child about the book we read and the discussion we had!

Playground Rules
Each class also attended a session with Mr. Vieaux regarding recess. He went over the rules, routines, and expectations for using our outdoor resources during recess time. They also had the opportunity to learn and practice some new recess games. This helps keep students safe and allows them to enjoy our outdoor space year-round.

It was great to see so many families during our Back-to-School Night yesterday. This event is an important part of the beginning of our school year. It allows parents to hear about school-wide goals and initiatives, new programs, and policy reminders, and then to learn about grade-level curriculum and classroom expectations. If you could not attend, please reach out to your classroom teacher to get any important information that was covered. On Monday, our 1st-5th grade students will start their fall iReady diagnostic tests in both math and reading and work on them over the next few weeks. For those of you new to iReady, this diagnostic test is computer-adaptive, matching the difficulty of questions to each student's ability. As students answer questions correctly, the test becomes more difficult. If students answer questions incorrectly, the test becomes easier. The test adapts to determine each student's precise ability in the quickest, most efficient way possible. Immediately after students complete the i-Ready diagnostic, students are given an automated online lesson pathway. Their personalized instruction will begin in the domain in which they placed lowest. Teachers can also assign specific lessons within a domain to target instruction. You will receive a report on your student's fall diagnostic test during conferences in October.

Students will use iReady in school to complete the required 30 minutes of lessons in each subject. These lessons will allow your child to get access to advanced-level work or additional support in areas of need. Students will retake the diagnostic test in winter and spring to measure progress towards grade-level standards.

We had an overwhelming response to all of our EXPLORE Enrichment and Intervention classes. We have already had over 300 families sign up for one of our many classes!

The interest form will close on August 28th. By August 31st, families will receive a waitlist email or a welcome email notifying them they are enrolled in the class. All permission slips are September 4th. Classes will begin on September 14th.

Thank you for all of your support with arrival and dismissal! Our drop-off line has​ been very smooth as students get more comfortable with the morning routine! We appreciate your help getting your children ready for a quick exit in the morning and staying in your cars while our staff helps students get to the correct location.

As a reminder, please remember to pull all the way forward and be cautious about blocking the crosswalk and backing up when in line. If your child requires a car seat, it is very helpful if the car seat is curbside so children don't have to walk around the car to get in. We also ask that you do not get out of your car. If you need additional time, please pull all the way forward.

As our dismissal process continues to run more efficiently, please pick up your child by 3 pm. If students are still outside at 3 pm, they will be brought into the office. Please bring a photo ID when picking them up.

It’s membership renewal season, that’s what! Simply follow the link to our Totem platform to confirm your active PTA status. Anyone can join (Parents, grandparents, Aunties, and businesses). The dues we raise benefit students year-round Students will celebrate with a popcorn treat when we hit our school goal of 200 members!

Hello Reidy Creek Families!

It was great seeing so many families at Back to School Night last night!

I am so excited to see so many families eager to volunteer at Reidy Creek! We have received many volunteer forms through the EUSD website, and we are so grateful for your interest in supporting our Reidy Creek community.

As a reminder, there have been some changes to the EUSD volunteer process. We want to make sure you have all the information you need and an opportunity to ask any questions.

We will be hosting a Volunteer Orientation & Informational Meeting on Friday, August 28th, from 8:15–9:15 a.m. in the Family Engagement Center. Please check in at the front office first.

We look forward to seeing you and working together to make this a wonderful school year for our Reidy Creek students and families!
