Coyote Connection

Dear Families,

We have officially wrapped up our second week of school, and it was a busy one! While our classrooms continued to focus on building strong communities and establishing daily routines, students also jumped right into their grade-level curriculum. The intense heat caused many of our recess times to move indoors, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that next week brings lower temperatures and some much-needed outdoor playtime! Despite the heat, energy was high as PE classes officially started off with Mr. Vieaux and Mrs. Zook indoors.

We also successfully completed our first earthquake and fire drills of the year. Everyone did an excellent job following directions quickly and safely. To ensure our students and staff feel confident and well-prepared in any situation, we will continue to hold two safety drills a month (covering fire, earthquake, and lockdown/secure campus procedures) throughout the year.

On Thursday, we also opened the Coyote Store for the first time. As many of you know, students can earn coyote coupons around campus by following our four school-wide expectations. Every Thursday, they can purchase small toys and trinkets at the Coyote Store. Students can either choose to spend their coupons each week, or save up for a bigger purchase, such as silly stringing myself, or joining me for ice cream during lunchtime. It was wonderful to see how proud the students were when they turned in their coupons! I hope you stay cool this weekend, and we'll see you on Monday!

I am thrilled to announce that Reidy Creek is receiving the Platinum Implementation Award for California's PBIS Statewide Recognition. This is awarded to schools for building a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment! This recognition reflects our school’s excellence in implementing the core features of PBIS.

As many of you know, this year we will continue to focus on school attendance. We are hoping to reach and maintain a school-wide goal of 95% every month. We've already had several unexcused absences since the beginning of the year, and I want to take this opportunity to stress the importance of coming to school each and every day.

Studies have shown that when children miss school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills. Preliminary data in California found that students who were chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade. This can significantly impact a child's education in the later elementary years, as well as throughout middle and high school. We do see an effect on students' academic success due to excessive absences.

While we know some absences can't be avoided, please make every effort to schedule appointments before, after, or during school breaks. If your child is feeling under the weather and you have a question about whether or not they can attend school, please don't hesitate to call our nurse's office. We're happy to help!

We currently have 385 students registered for EXPLORE classes! While many of our classes already have a waitlist, we do have a few with openings, so check out the list below and sign up now!

Permission slips will go home Monday, Aug. 31, and are due back by Friday, Sept. 4.

Thank you for all of your support with arrival and dismissal! Our drop-off line has​ been very smooth as students get more comfortable with the morning routine! We appreciate your help getting your children ready for a quick exit in the morning and staying in your cars while our staff helps students get to the correct location.

A few reminders:

• Please remember to pull all the way forward and be cautious about blocking the crosswalk and backing up when in line.
• Follow the directions of the staff who are outside. They are there to keep the flow of traffic moving so students can get in and out of the car quickly.
• If your child requires a car seat, it is very helpful if the car seat is curbside so children don't have to walk around the car to get in.
• Do not get out of your car in either the bus loop or in front of the school. If you need additional time, please pull all the way forward or park.
• Keep your limo sign in your car window. It is very challenging to identify cars without the limo sign, and it takes our staff longer to locate your child.
• There is a strict "no turn on red" policy when turning right into Reidy Creek. The Escondido Police Department closely monitors that corner and will ticket families who turn on red.

As our dismissal process continues to run more efficiently, please pick up your child by 3 pm. If students are still outside at 3 pm, they will be brought into the office. Please bring a photo ID when picking them up.

Hello Reidy Creek Families!

I was so excited to see such a great turnout at our Volunteer Orientation! It really made me feel energized and excited for the new school year. Thank you to everyone who joined us! There are many changes to our EUSD Volunteer policies, and I’m glad I was able to answer questions and provide clarification. If you haven’t heard by now, any volunteer who would like to attend a field trip must now have Level 1 clearance, which requires providing negative TB test results. All updated information can be found on our District website (opens in a new tab).

We are also excited to kick off our Recess Reimagined games! However, we need volunteers to help keep this program going. If you have some free time on Friday mornings, please consider signing up for a day. Your help will make a big difference in providing our students with fun activities during recess!
